Prototype to Production with Commentary

22 November - 4 January 2015

The Aram Gallery is pleased to present Prototype to Production with Commentary, a new exhibition bringing together industrial designers André Klauser and Ed Carpenter partners at Very Good & Proper, and illustrator Rachel Gannon.

Prototype to Production with Commentary charts the progress of designs produced under the Very Good & Proper brand and supposes a realistic future usage for them. Established in 2008 VG&P design and manufacture practical products for the domestic and commercial market. In this exhibition, select items from VG&P’s range are shown alongside the models and 3D sketches which describe the decisions the products’ designers took during the design process.

To create the Commentary element of this exhibition, illustrator Rachel Gannon takes inspiration from the intended use and aesthetics of these objects to create a series of bespoke drawings.  Gannon’s illustrations are developed from a series of documentary drawings in which she considers both environment and consumer, using both influences to accurately describe an objects use.

The Aram Gallery is interested in the relationship between creative experimentation and commercial production; we rarely show designs available on the market.  However, over the past 6 years we have consistently shown VG&Ps prototypes and are excited to present them once more, this time with a consideration of what happens next. Prototype to Production with Commentary summarises the design process into three succinct steps; past, present and future.  We see this exhibition as a clear way to show our young design audience, and the general public, the detailed development not only of design production, but how that design is then used.
